Art and culture

Roman remains (Pont du Gard, Maison Carrée, Arènes de Nîmes…) and contemporary art creation, (Carré d’Art – museum of Contemporary Art, Théâtre de Nîmes, SMAC Paloma…) offer a unique artistic context.

In this environment, the Carré d’Art, a structure of international renown built up by Sir Norman Foster, takes pride of place with its collection and programme of exhibitions exclusively dedicated to contemporary art.

The Vincent Van Gogh Foundation and the LUMA Foundation in Arles, the Lambert Foundation in Avignon, the CRAC at Séte and the MRAC at Serignan, the FRAC, the Panacée – Centre for Contemporary Culture, and the CDN in Montpellier, come to diversify the landscape of spaces for contemporary creation surrounding the Esban.

The ésban is also located close to the main venues for live entertainment festivals that punctuate the seasons of spring and summer: Montpellier Danse, Uzès Danse, the Rencontres d’Arles, Printemps des Comédiens along with the Radio France festival in Montpellier and the Festival d’Avignon.
